Our Mandate

Established in 2017 by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL, pronounced Tee-Tal) serves as the policy implementation agency for tourism in Tobago, responsible for translating the tourism policy of the THA into coordinated, market-responsive actions that drive sustainable tourism development, destination competitiveness, and increased visitor arrivals, investment, and economic contribution.

TTAL, working in collaboration with the industry stakeholders, develops and promotes authentic, sustainable tourism experiences to generate a strong travel demand and stimulate on-island development for the benefit of the people of Tobago. 

Guided by our mandate and rooted in partnership, TTAL carries out a range of core functions that shape how Tobago is developed, experienced and shared with the word. These include:

    • Working assiduously with tourism stakeholders towards the development of Tobago as the premier destination in the Southern Caribbean.
    • Designing and implementing suitable and effective marketing strategies for the promotion of the island’s tourism product.
    • Ensuring adequate and suitable air and sea passenger transport services to and from Tobago in order to facilitate international airlift, domestic airlift, cruise and domestic ferry services.
    • Establishing and facilitating the establishment of amenities and facilities for the enjoyment of Tobago as a tourist destination.
    • Conducting pertinent research and marketing intelligence in order to inform effective decision making in the tourism industry.
    • Registering and classifying tourist accommodation according to their adherence to established standards.
    • Transiting accurate and timely tourism information to the Division, tourism stakeholders and the general public.
    • Successfully promoting events as identified in the island’s tourism calendar.
    • Ensuring timely payment to suppliers of goods and services and airlines that serve the destination.

    • 2025: Tobago hosted the Dods Diving World Championship, the first time the event was hosted outside of Norway.
    • 2024: Travel + Leisure 20 Best Scuba Diving Destinations in the World.
    • 2023: Wanderlust Readers Travel Award – Bronze in the Most Desirable Island (World) Category.
    • 2022: Wanderlust Readers Travel Award – Silver in the Most Desirable Island (World) Category.
    • 2020: UNESCO designated North-East Tobago a Biosphere Reserve, with the Main Ridge Forest Reserve at its heart.
    • 2019: International Travel and Tourism Awards – Best National Tourism Board Campaign for ‘Revitalizing Tobago Tourism’.
    • 2019: Main Ridge Forest Reserve became the nation’s first natural National Heritage Site.
    • 2007 – 2009: World’s Leading Green Destination.
    • 2003 – 2006: World’s Leading Ecotourism Destination.
