The Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL) proudly brought the spirit of Tobago to the heart of Toronto at the 4th Annual Trinbago Toronto Festival, hosted under the auspices of the Consulate General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Toronto. From September 5th – 7th, Nathan Phillips Square was transformed into a vibrant showcase of culture, music, and Trinbago pride—an unmatched platform to position Tobago as a premier island destination.

With festival attendance at 60,000 patrons this year, TTAL capitalized on the opportunity to engage the Caribbean diaspora and Canadian travelers alike. Interest in visiting Tobago was high, with scores of festival visitors flocking to the Tobago Beyond Ordinary booth, eager to learn more about Tobago’s unspoilt beaches, thriving eco-adventures, vibrant festivals, and rich cultural traditions. Many also shared glowing personal testimonies about Tobago, reinforcing its growing appeal in the Canadian market.

TTAL’s presence extended beyond the festival grounds, securing valuable visibility through pre-event features and live interviews on CTV News Toronto and Caribbean Connection on CHIN Radio 100.7FM, ensuring Tobago’s story reached audiences far beyond Nathan Phillips Square.

Leaders Celebrate Tobago’s Impact
Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), the Honourable Farley Augustine, underscored the significance of Tobago’s participation:

“We are here again, for the second year straight, investing in this festival with our marketing spend, because it is important for TTAL to engage the diaspora and engage communities that are familiar with Trinidad and Tobago’s culture…it’s an easy sell. This is also an opportunity for Tobago to really shine and demonstrate that we are a part of this country called Trinidad and Tobago, 63 years into being an independent nation. We are proud of who we are, proud of what we have contributed to the national space, and we are here joining our Trini brothers and sisters in celebrating all things Trinidad and Tobago.”

The Consul General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Toronto, expressed her gratitude to TTAL for its collaboration and presence at the festival, adding:

“We are absolutely delighted to have Tobago here with us in a very real and tangible way this year…we anticipate approximately 60,000 persons. And we are very confident that its (the festival) impact will be far-reaching and very consequential for Tobago, particularly because Tobago’s tourism product is so unique and so distinct, not only from Trinidad but also in the Caribbean. Tobago’s presence here shows that its product can stand uniquely on its own and be very impactful.”

His Excellency Michael Callan, High Commissioner for Canada to Trinidad and Tobago, echoed this sentiment as he praised the island’s unique tourism offerings:

“Tobago helps connect people and helps soothe many ails that people are contending with through its wonderful beaches, eco-tourism, and incredible holiday experiences. The boutique offerings and the ecotourism are unique—much more personal, much more intimate, and much more authentic as well. You can see it here with the level of energy and the interest from Torontonians, Canadians, and those of Trinbagonian descent. You could feel the warmth of the connection…I’m sure that energy is going to carry over into people’s personal plans and open their eyes into the wonders that Tobago has to offer.”

Beyond the Festival: Expanding Tobago’s Canadian Footprint
The Toronto mission forms part of TTAL’s wider Canadian sales initiative, strategically designed to saturate the market ahead of expanded direct airlift. The campaign targets three priority audiences—consumers, the travel trade, and media—to strengthen Tobago’s visibility and appeal.

Speaking at the Trinbago Toronto event, Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly, the Honourable Farley Augustine, underscored the importance of this forward-looking approach:

“While here, TTAL will be engaging the media, they will also be part of a massive trade show later this week, they will be involved in some B2B engagement, and it’s part of a holistic approach in saturating the North American market in anticipation of direct flights that are about to come on later this year and into next year.”

Councillor Tashia Burris, Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation (DOTCAT), emphasized the mission’s strategic reach, including additional efforts to reinforce Tobago’s position as a premier wedding destination for Canadian travelers:

“The Tobago Tourism Agency Limited is here in Toronto as part of our Canadian sales mission…Thousands of persons have come out to see what Trinbago has to offer…Part of the work of the TTAL for the rest of the time that we are here is to attend the Canadian Bridal Show – one of the largest bridal shows in North America. And it’s part of our thrust to ensure that we are establishing very strong links and partnerships with our Canadian market. In addition to that we will be hosting a media luncheon and at that media luncheon we will be talking about all of the things that Tobago has to offer – talking about our ecotourism, our dive, our culture, our heritage, our events, every single thing that can happen on 116 square miles of the most unspoilt, untouched, undiscovered jewel in the Caribbean.”

Upcoming activities in Toronto include:

  • Media Outreach – September 9: TTAL will host an intimate luncheon with some of Canada’s top travel journalists, leveraging Toronto’s robust media landscape to drive press coverage and secure future press trips.
  • Travel Trade Engagement – September 11: TTAL will participate in the Association of Canadian Travel Agents (ACTA) Trade Summit, connecting directly with hundreds of travel advisors who influence Canadians’ vacation choices.
  • Romance Market Activation – September 12–14: TTAL will showcase Tobago’s wedding and romance offerings at the Canada Bridal Show, Canada’s largest bridal event attracting over 35,000 visitors annually.

A Strong Signal for Tobago Tourism
TTAL’s engagement in Toronto underscores its commitment to expanding Tobago’s visibility and competitiveness in the Canadian market—a critical source of long-stay, high-value travelers. By leveraging cultural festivals, media connections, and trade partnerships through this mission, the Agency continues to position Tobago as the unspoilt, authentic Caribbean gem that truly goes Beyond Ordinary.
